What is a mother? She is a caregiver, nurturer, and supporter. She is also selfless. She makes countless sacrifices to help her children succeed and achieve their dreams. When times get tough, it’s often mom who’s there with wisdom and encouragement, providing her children with the guidance needed to forge forward.
Thinking back on my junior golf days, my mom was all of this and more. Golf lessons and clinics, practice rounds, fun rounds, high school matches, being my transportation to and from my first job – at the golf course – because I was too young to drive. My mom got me there.
When I hit a great shot, made an improbable putt, or had a low round, mom was always there with love, pride, and a warmth only a mom can provide.
After a poorly executed shot, bad hole, or even a poor day on the course, mom was still there with love, pride, and warmth. While I didn’t know it then, I realize now how she engrained within me that my score and how I played didn’t define me. It took me many years, but I understand this now.
No matter how I played, Mom was simply happy to be on the course with me, watching me develop and fall in love with the game. And she was quick to get me back in line when I started to complain or grow frustrated with my game.
I have so much to be grateful for, Mom. From the time of junior golf to this very day, Mom has inspired me – both on and off the course. She taught me to respect, love, and believe. She helped craft the person I am today.
Moms are the best of us, and there is no doubt that they make the world go around. The game of golf has been my lifelong muse, and much of that was made possible by my mom. She’s the unsung hero of my golf game. But she’s my shining star in life.
I hope you know how much your selfless love has meant to me over the years. And I cannot wait until we put the tee peg in the ground and play another round together!
